Maternal and Family Health Services, Inc. announces they are a recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Robert Y. Moffat Family Charitable Trust. The grant will fund the addition of a crib safety module to the MFHS self-directed interactive kiosk system.
The upgrade to the kiosk system will focus on the Healthy Beginnings Plus Prenatal Program at the MFHS Circle of Care in Scranton, which serves low-income, high-risk pregnant women in Scranton and Lackawanna County. The new prenatal education model will help MFHS clients to have a better understanding of the importance of crib safety for their newborn and will provide learning for them that is interactive, relevant and culturally appropriate. In addition to Circle of Care, the upgrade will roll out to 23 additional kiosks in the MFHS service network.
The Circle of Care is a unique, one-stop shop for women’s care that combines all the MFHS health and wellness programs in one coordinated site. The Circle of Care model allows MFHS to deliver high-quality, professional care in partnership with a premier health delivery system that has an outstanding reputation for women’s and children’s health care services in northeastern Pennsylvania. In addition to the MFHS services, the Circle of Care partners with local health care providers to offer on-site well baby visits.
MFHS will be developing the self-directed education modules with St. Andrew Development, who assisted in the initial development of the kiosk system. The interactive kiosks helps clients to determine if they qualify for programs, learn what is offered in each program, print out useful information, and complete forms for the WIC Program.
The health of mothers and infants is critically important to the well-being of our community, as a reflection of our current health status and a predictor of the health of the next generation. With Circle of Care, MFHS has a system in place to address the health and social service needs of low-income high-risk women in Lackawanna County and to make a difference for the future of our community.
