Working to meet the health and nutritional needs of women, children and families with information, education, and quality care, MFHS is currently seeking a Human Resources Intern for our Administrative Wilkes-Barre location.

Job Summary: 

The HR Intern will assist with recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new employees. This position will support and assist with policy revisions by conducting research, and editing content, and provide additional support to HR staff for employee relations and administrative functions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the recruitment and selection process by preparing ads and postings for placement; updating and monitoring electronic job boards; performing phone screens with applicants; attending job and career fairs; and checking references. 
  • Assist with the orientation and onboarding of new employees by conducting portions of the company overview, policy, and benefits sections of HR orientation. Perform follow-up as needed with new hires ensuring accurate and timely completion of all required forms.
  • Research policy trends, collect sample policies, and assist in the edit and review of policy revisions for the creation of an updated and revised Employee HR Policy Manual.
  • Draft and edit job descriptions and submit to program manager and Senior Director of HR for approval.
  • Assist and support communication and employee relations efforts by preparing electronic communication system (Caring Connections) slides for agency wide viewing, generating ideas for health and wellness communications and activities, research and execute awareness month activities, and assist with generating general employee announcements and responses to inquiries.
  • Provide general administrative support to include completing VOEs, obtaining requested information, and filing.
  • Promote and contribute to organizational and programmatic goals.

Qualifications/Requirements/Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years of completed coursework in the pursuit of a Human Resources Management major.
  • 1 year of general employment preferred
  • Advanced business writing skills for memos, emails, documents, and other materials.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for conducting new employee orientation.
  • General understanding of business and human resources principles.
  • Fundamentals of basic software and database programs to input and/or extract information
  • General understanding of employment law as it pertains to recruitment, hiring, selection, promotion, and termination preferred.
