2011 is a very special year for Maternal & Family Health Services. This is the year our agency celebrates its 40th anniversary. As we celebrate our founding in June of 1971, we want to celebrate how far we’ve come and all of the exciting things that the future holds for MFHS. Most of all, we want to celebrate and share this with you, our wonderful community of supporters.
This is an opportunity to shine a spot light on MFHS and celebrate all this agency has accomplished over 40 years. We are planning some special events to celebrate this milestone anniversary, which we’ll be sharing with you here and on our website throughout the year.
MFHS first started serving women in Luzerne County in 1971 with the Family Planning Program, and later expanded to include maternity services, the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, the Healthy Woman Cancer Screening Program, the Nurse-Family Partnership, and the Safeteens Initiative. As MFHS expanded into new service lines and new counties, the organization faced the challenges of each new era by remaining on the cutting edge of service delivery and offering quality programs that meet the ever growing need. The MFHS network is now the entry point into the health care system for thousands of Northeast Pennsylvania women.
“This is a time to celebrate how far we have come, lessons learned, and the promising future ahead for MFHS,” said Bette Cox Saxton, MFHS President & CEO. “More importantly, it is a time to reflect on the enormous positive impact MFHS, our staff and our volunteer Board of Directors has had on the families we serve. Since its inception, this agency has responded to the community’s changing needs by continually developing and adapting programs that improve the quality of life for women, children and families.”
Be sure to come back to our blog to see how you can help us celebrate during the next year, and to share your stories about how MFHS has impacted your lives and the community around you.
